Overview
In a recent public consultation the need for a Community Hub, offering improved services and facilities was identified as one of the town’s priorities by the people of Camelford.
In response to this a partnership of Camelford Town Council, Camelford Hall, Little Acorns Nursery and Camelford Together have been investigating potential current and future options for a scheme that could realise this ambition. Camelford Hall, an established building close to the town centre, which is home to the Little Acorns Nursery and which regularly hosts events for local groups, was identified as a suitable location for the Community Hub.
In order to bid for funds a number of preparatory steps need to be taken. These include identifying the facilities needed, creating a business plan, employing an architect to develop detailed plans and engaging with planners at Cornwall Council. Public consultation on plans once they are sufficiently developed will be an integral part of this process. Once each of these is successfully achieved funding can be sought and, if successfully secured, a new Community Hub can be made possible.
Pre-Application
As an early part of developing the scheme, a recent Pre-Planning Application was made to Cornwall Council to understand the planning requirements for any successful future planning application.
The Pre-Planning Application principally considers what area the building might occupy in the future and if any additional stories are required. It does not at this stage consider details such as the internal footprint, the aesthetics of the building externally or the detail of the services provided. Each of these will be considered in advance of any future funding application.
